What To Know Prior To Making A Tuxedo Purchase

There are several different styles of tuxedos on the market today from men to choose from. It is important that men wishing to purchase a tuxedo know and understand the differences between the different styles worn for different occasions requiring formal attire.

There are certain things which should be considered when making a tuxedo purchase. Although tuxedos are available for rentals on special occasions, it is not a bad idea to have one or two tuxedos available at the ready should a special occasion arise.

First, you will need to determine how frequent you will be wearing your tuxedo. This is because buying a tuxedo can be relatively expensive if you are looking for a good quality fabric that can last for a long time. It is also ideal to have one in your wardrobe than rent a tuxedo if you are often times invited to formal occasions.

Light colored tuxedos such as gray suits are best during the day time whereas black colored or midnight blue tuxedos are more suitable for night events. Always make sure that the tuxedo that you will be wearing on the upcoming event fits you nicely. Also make sure that there are no holes anywhere on the fabric.

Proper care is important in order for your tuxedo to last a lifetime. Try to inspect your tuxedo for any stains or anything that requires special attention before you head for any big event. Folding your tuxedo is generally not advisable if it is made of a very good quality material.

A tuxedo can be worn with a bow tie, or without, depending on individual style and comfort levels. Traditionally, a black bow-tie is worn with a tuxedo and is suitable for all tuxedos. There are two different types of bow-ties available–pre-tied which just clip around the neck, or ones which require actually being tied. The ones which require tying should be practiced in order to give it the proper appearance.

A single breasted tuxedo generally fits almost all body types and sizes while double-breasted ones look a lot better for taller men who are six feet and above. Double breasted tuxedos usually come in three different styles which are traditional double breasted peak, double breasted notch and double breasted shawl.

Lastly, you should only wear a vest or a cummerbund but not both at the same time. When wearing a cummerbund, it should be facing upwards as the pleats are designed to face up. It is also advisable for you to choose a subdued color or pattern cummerbund combination when attending a more formal event.
